TBW Students Cricket Tournament: Season-2:
League Matches End: 17 Teams Enter Super League
The last 12 league matches of the TBW Students Cricket Tournament, Season-2 were held on December 24. In the league match series teams from different districts of Odisha, battled their opponents to secure a spot in the Super League. Following the trail and with the Champion’s Title in mind, 4 teams in Group – C and 8 teams in Group – F faced each other on the 24th of December.
In the 4 league matches of Group – C, team S.B.D. Challengers, Jajpur and team DNA Warriors, Blangir won 2 matches each. Similarly, in Group – F, Jobra Bull Dominators from Cuttack, and S.S.V.M. Dominators from Jajpur, both made their way to the Super League by winning 2 matches each in their group.
The League match series, which was held between 48 teams, ended with these matches. Teams from almost all the districts of Odisha had come to participate in the tournament. They were divided into 6 groups, in which they played to reserve a spot in the Super League. While the teams from Cuttack, Jajpur and Brahmapur, participated in greater numbers, multiple teams from far-flung districts like Balasore, Balangir, Bhadrak, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal also participated in the tournament with much enthusiasm. Based on their performances in league matches, points earned by them and net run rate, 17 of these teams have qualified to play the Super League.
Teams entering the Super League phase are, Kandhamal Super Eleven and Elite Eleven, Berhampur from Group – A, Rayagada Kings Eleven and G Revolution All Stars, Bhubaneswar from Group-B, Jafna Stallions, Cuttack and SBD Challengers, Jajpur from Group-C, Bengal Tiger Eleven, Jajpur and Krishna Vikas Victorious, Bargarh from Group-D, Berhampur Sporting Club and Mahakal Warriors, Balasore from Group-E, and Jobra Bull Dominators, Cuttack and S.S.V.M. Dominators, Jajpur from Group-F.
Apart from these, team MKCC of Baratha, Jajpur, team Shine Eleven of Kanpur, Narsinghpur, team Elite Achievers of Bhatli, Bargarh, team Pragati Sporting of Rourkela and team DNA Warriors of Balangir have also been promoted to the Super League stage based on their excellent performances in the league matches.
The Jobra Bull Dominators from Cuttack, however, have dominated the league matches. They have succeeded to earn a good number of fan following for themselves showcasing their skills in the game. But they are not alone in the show. Team Bengal Tiger Eleven from Jajpur and Rayagada Kings Eleven are expected to make things difficult for the Bulls. Then again, its not the fight of the Bulls, the Tigers and the Kings alone. Other teams entering the Super League are also in high spirits and all set to show their best and make it worst for their opponents.
The audience are also eagerly waiting to watch the performances of quite a few players. One of them is Raja Pradhan from Bhatli, Baragarh, who has scored 2 centuries in the league matches. Another player considered a perfect match for Raja Pradhan is Raja Jena from Jajpur, who has scored 206 runs. Apart from these two, audience are also waiting to witness the magic of the bowling sensations Asutosh of Balangir, Madan Mohan of Jajpur and Pradeep of Rourkela, along with the performance of the all-rounder G. B. Bhaskar of Rayagada.
Out of the 17 teams that will face each other in the Super League on December 28th and 29th, 8 teams will go to the Knockout stage. And the top 4 teams from the Knockout stage will go on to play the Semi-finals, which is to be held on December 30. Top 2 teams, who will prove their eligibility by their game in the Semi-finals, will qualify for the Finals, where they will take on each other to prove themselves the best among all.
